Discovering Wales through regenerative tourism
What if your holiday could do more than refresh your mind, what if it could sustain and nourish the places you visit too?
In Wales, we’re huge advocates for regenerative tourism practices: a way of travelling that slows down, connects deeply, and gives something back to the land and communities you explore.
Along the Wales Coast Path, this idea isn't just a concept, it’s happening already. Every day through local initiatives, cultural engagement, and thoughtful and purposeful planning. Here’s some tips on how you can be a part of this meaningful travel movement.
Rather than ticking off sights, regenerative tourism encourages you to immerse yourself in the place you’re in and go slowly. Multi-day walking itineraries along the Wales Coast Path help you settle into a region - to experience its secret spots and its very soul -as well as reducing your carbon footprint by travelling on foot. Additionally, these routes often use local hubs as bases, encouraging longer stays and deeper local connections. Find out more about multi day walking itineraries
The Welsh language is alive and well in Wales and along the Wales Coast Path, and not just on our road signs (the first thing visitors from outside Wales often notice!), but in everyday Welsh life, and in our music, poetry, and local legends and stories. Engaging with the language and culture is one of the most powerful ways to give back: your interest helps keep traditions thriving.
Projects like Ecoamgueddfa on the Llŷn Peninsula invite you into a living museum of language and community. And through bilingual poetry initiatives on the Wales Coast Path you can experience Welsh culture through both ancient and modern voices. Regenerative tourism boosts local economies by directing your spending to independent, often family-run businesses, that are the heart and soul of local communities. Along the coast path, we’ve created a guide that helps you find the best in local food and drink, from artisan sandwiches to fresh seafood and delicious pastries straight from the oven.
Our Foodie Guide to the Wales Coast Path helps you eat your way around the coast while supporting producers and restaurants that reflect the true flavour of Wales.
Nature is at the heart of every walk along the Wales Coast Path, offering beauty, peace, and inspiration with every step. In return, there are simple and meaningful ways we can give back to the landscapes that give us so much.
Take part in a 2 minute Beach Clean to help remove litter and protect wildlife, or join citizen science initiatives like CoastSnap, where a quick photo taken with your phone can help scientists track and understand coastal erosion and change over time.
While you explore, follow the Addo Promise or the Countryside Code to ensure you’re walking gently and respectfully through natural spaces, leaving no trace and preserving them for others to enjoy.
And remember to carry a reusable water bottle - Refill Wales stations along the route make it easy to top up without contributing to plastic waste. Every small action helps protect the places we love.
Use public transport to reach the path or try one of our circular walking routes that start and end at train stations.
