Path facts and figures

The Wales Coast Path is 870 miles or 1,400 kilometres long. It starts and finishes on the Welsh and English border in the north, near Chester, and in Chepstow in the south. The official halfway point in New Quay, Ceredigion, is marked by a sculpture overlooking the harbour, wishing travellers good luck.

The path connects with the National Trails in Wales, which go through some of the best landscapes in the UK, marked with an acorn logo. It links with three Welsh National Trails: Glyndwr’s Way at Machynlleth, Offa’s Dyke Path in Prestatyn, and the Pembrokeshire Coast Path National Trail. You can also pick up the Cambrian Way, a challenging trail from Cardiff to Conwy.

The Anglesey coastal path, Ceredigion coast path, and Pembrokeshire Coast Path National Trail are also part of the path. The path is free to enjoy, open all year round, and you can walk around the entire country of Wales by combining the Wales Coast Path and Offa’s Dyke Path National Trail – a total of about 1,047 miles or 1,685 kilometres. The official guidebooks for the path are published by Northern Eye Books. The Llyn Peninsula (Bangor to Porthmadog) guidebook is available in Welsh from the Book Council for Wales. Read more about the official guidebooks

  • Access from all devices: Ensure your website can be viewed on all devices, including smartphones and tablets.
  • Link with your social media: Update your social media platforms with links highlighting new content on your site. The more engagement your site gets, the higher it will rank in search engines.
  • Images and film: Use good quality images to attract web visitors.

  • Prevent your dog from approaching horse riders, cyclists, or other people and their dogs uninvited.
  • Never let your dog worry or chase wildlife or livestock. Follow advice on local signs to reduce disturbance to plants and animals.
  • Always bag and bin your dog’s poo wherever you are. You can use any public waste bin or your bin at home.
  • If you’re worried about your dog's safety, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
